About This Project

SUE Solutions contracted with UDOT Region Two and H.W. Lochner to conduct Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services for the I-80; Parley’s Summit to Jeremy Ranch WB Truck Ln project located in Summit County, Utah. SUE Solutions Scope of Work included Quality Level D (utility owner and mapping research), Quality Level B (designating), and Quality Level A (test holes). The purpose of this project was to add a truck lane on westbound I-80 from Jeremy Ranch to Parleys Summit, and to build a wildlife crossing near Parleys Summit. Upon completion of the contracted SUE activities, SUE Solutions designated approximately 26,000 lineal feet of underground utilities to Quality Level B standards and specifications, and successfully completed 22 test holes to Quality Level A standards and specifications. Additionally, SUE Solutions also worked closely with the existing utility owners to identify the owner of a fiber optic facility that was not reflected on the initial utility owner mapping obtained. Identifying the owner of this fiber optic facility was critical due to tit being in direct conflict with the project’s design and eventual construction. SUE Solutions completed the SUE activities on time and within budget. SUE Solutions identified 16 different utility owners within the project area consisting of culinary water, fiber optics, phone, CATV, electric, and natural gas (IHP and HP), sewer, and storm drain. The final deliverable to UDOT and design consultant consisted of a comprehensive final SUE report which contained existing utility conditions and their limitations, photographs of designated utilities, existing utility owner mapping, and test hole data sheets.
